Santiago, Chile

I had a day and a half in Santiago. Not long enough. But I did see a few things.

The tallest building in South America. The oldest church in Santiago. The financial district. The changing of the guards at the National Palace. The University. Lots of street art. And, of course, a winery.

Fun fact – the Carmenere grape had disappeared in Europe because of a plague from a small bug. The grape was “rediscovered” in Chile in the 1980’s and is now considered the Chilean grape like Malbec is the Argentine grape.

I had forgotten my sunscreen – unbelievable – so I spent a chunk of time at the shopping mall down the street from our hotel.

Next stop Easter Island. Rapa Nui.
